Custom new home construction in Sonoma County by Sonoma Residential Services — general contractor

New Construction

Building Your Vision

Building a custom home is a big undertaking, and choosing the right contractor matters more than anything. As a general contractor in Sonoma County, we've built homes from the ground up for over 50 years.

Start Your Project

We build custom homes in Sonoma County — from modest family homes to larger estates on acreage. Our approach is straightforward: we work closely with you and your architect, manage the entire build from permits to punch list, and keep you informed along the way. No surprises, no runaround.

How We Build

We get involved early — ideally during the design phase — so we can flag potential issues before they become expensive problems. We coordinate with your architect and engineers, handle all permitting with the county, and manage every trade on site. Our project managers are on-site daily, not sitting in an office. You'll have one point of contact throughout the build, and we provide regular updates so you always know where things stand.

Quality You Can See

We're selective about the subcontractors and suppliers we work with — most have been with us for years. That consistency shows up in the finished product. Our framing is straight, our trim work is tight, and we don't move on from a phase until it's done right. We also stay current with energy codes and building science, so your new home will be comfortable and efficient, not just good-looking.

Where We Build

Most of our new construction projects are in Sonoma County — Santa Rosa, Healdsburg, Sebastopol, Petaluma, Windsor, and the surrounding areas. We also build in Marin County. Whether you're building on a flat suburban lot or a hillside with challenging access, we have the experience to handle it. As a residential contractor in Sonoma County, we know the local soils, the fire codes, the planning departments, and what it takes to get a home built here.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the first step?

Give us a call or fill out the contact form. We'll set up a meeting to talk about your project — what you're looking to build, your budget range, and your timeline. If you already have plans, bring them. If not, we can recommend architects we've worked with.

How long does it take to build a custom home?

Most custom homes in Sonoma County take 12-18 months of construction, depending on size and complexity. The design and permitting phase adds another 3-6 months before that. We'll give you a realistic schedule during the planning phase.

Do you handle permitting?

Yes. We manage the entire permitting process with Sonoma County (or Marin County) planning and building departments. We've been through it hundreds of times and know what to expect.

Can you work with my architect?

Absolutely — we work with outside architects on most of our projects. We can also recommend architects if you haven't selected one yet.

Do you build in Marin County?

Yes. While most of our work is in Sonoma County, we also take on new construction projects in Marin County and other parts of the North Bay.
