The heart of Sonoma County — and the center of our work.
As a trusted contractor in Santa Rosa, CA, we do most of our building right here. It's the largest city in Sonoma County, and its neighborhoods are as varied as the people who live in them. The rolling hills of Bennett Valley, with its ranch-style homes and oak-studded lots. The hillside estates of Fountaingrove, many of which were lost in the 2017 fires and are now being rebuilt. The charming bungalows and Victorians near downtown. The newer developments in Southwest Santa Rosa and Roseland.
We understand the character of each neighborhood because we've worked in all of them. We know which areas have specific design review requirements, which lots present grading challenges, and which streets have the kind of mature trees that need careful protection during construction.
Santa Rosa is also where our fire rebuild story began. When the Tubbs Fire tore through Fountaingrove and Coffey Park in October 2017, it destroyed over 3,000 homes in the city. Kelly's family home was among them. That experience fundamentally shaped who we are as builders — and it's why we bring a level of personal understanding to every project in this city.

Where We Build
Santa Rosa neighborhoods we know well.
01
Bennett Valley
Nestled between Sonoma Mountain and Bennett Peak, this neighborhood is known for its spacious lots, mature landscaping, and a mix of mid-century and custom homes. We've completed several remodels here, including whole-home renovations that honor the area's relaxed, rural character while bringing interiors up to modern standards.
02
Fountaingrove
Once one of Santa Rosa's premier hillside communities, Fountaingrove was devastated by the 2017 Tubbs Fire. Today, it's a community in the process of rebuilding — and we've been part of that effort from the beginning. We understand the HOA's architectural guidelines, the hillside grading requirements, and the emotional weight of rebuilding on a lot where a home once stood.
03
Downtown & West End
Santa Rosa's downtown core and surrounding neighborhoods — including the Junior College area, Cherry Street, and the West End — feature a mix of historic Victorians, Craftsman bungalows, and newer infill. Remodeling here often means working with older structures, navigating historic district considerations, and maximizing space on smaller urban lots.

The SRS Difference
Family roots. Local knowledge. A personal approach.
Sonoma Residential Services is a family-owned, veteran and woman-owned construction firm with over 50 years of combined family experience in residential building. Ryan grew up on job sites, learning the trade from his father — a custom home builder with a five-decade career. Kelly, a Sonoma County native, brings a perspective shaped by growing up in a family of builders and by the experience of losing her own family home in the 2017 fires.
We're not a large production builder. We take on a limited number of projects at a time so we can give each one the attention it deserves. When you work with us, you work with us — not a revolving door of project managers. That's how we've always done it, and it's why our clients keep coming back.

Santa Rosa FAQs
Common questions about building in Santa Rosa.
We work throughout Santa Rosa, including Bennett Valley, Fountaingrove, Rincon Valley, Oakmont, the Junior College neighborhood, downtown, and the West End. We're particularly experienced in Bennett Valley and Fountaingrove, where we've completed multiple remodels and fire rebuilds.
Yes. Kelly's own family home was lost in the 2017 Tubbs Fire, and we've been deeply involved in the Fountaingrove and Coffey Park rebuilding effort. We understand the unique challenges of fire rebuilds — from navigating insurance claims to working within the specific design guidelines of Fountaingrove's HOA. Our Insurance Restoration Hub has more details on our process.
Santa Rosa's permitting process runs through the city's Planning and Economic Development department. Timelines vary depending on the scope of work — a kitchen remodel might take 4-6 weeks for permits, while new construction or ADUs can take 3-6 months. We handle the entire permitting process for our clients and have strong working relationships with the local planning staff.
Absolutely. Santa Rosa has been proactive about ADU-friendly zoning, and most residential lots can accommodate an ADU. We handle everything from feasibility assessment and design to permitting and construction. ADUs are a great way to add value to your property and provide flexible living space for family or rental income.
It depends on the scope. A kitchen or bathroom remodel typically takes 8-16 weeks from demolition to completion. A whole-home remodel or addition can take 4-8 months. New construction runs 12-18 months. We provide a detailed timeline during the planning phase and keep you informed throughout the process.
