The Valley of the Moon — where history meets home.

Sonoma is where California began. The Plaza, the Mission, the Bear Flag — there's a weight of history here that you feel when you walk the streets. But Sonoma isn't a museum. It's a living, breathing community where people raise families, tend gardens, and come home at the end of the day to houses that range from 150-year-old adobes to brand-new construction.

That blend of old and new is what makes building in Sonoma interesting. A kitchen remodel in a home near the Plaza might mean working around original plaster walls and uneven floors. A project in Agua Caliente might involve updating a 1960s ranch to feel more open and connected to the outdoors. A new ADU on a larger lot in the Valley of the Moon might need to complement an existing home that's been there for decades.

We've completed projects throughout the Sonoma area, and we understand the nuances of building here — the local regulations, the soil conditions, the architectural expectations, and the lifestyle that draws people to this valley in the first place.

Sonoma neighborhoods and communities we serve.

Sonoma Plaza & Downtown

The heart of the city. Homes near the Plaza range from historic adobes and Victorians to mid-century ranches and newer infill. Building here means respecting the city's design guidelines while creating spaces that work for modern life. The walkability, the restaurants, the Saturday farmers' market — this is Sonoma at its most charming, and the homes here reflect that.

Agua Caliente & The Springs

The communities south of Sonoma — Agua Caliente, Boyes Hot Springs, Fetters Hot Springs, and El Verano — are some of the most diverse and dynamic neighborhoods in the valley. The housing stock is varied, and there's real opportunity to transform older homes into something special. We've completed kitchen remodels and updates throughout this area and appreciate its unpretentious character.

Valley of the Moon

The broader Sonoma Valley — stretching from the Carneros region in the south to the Sonoma Mountain foothills — includes larger properties, vineyard estates, and rural homes with stunning views. Projects here often involve more extensive site work, longer driveways, and the kind of privacy and natural beauty that make Sonoma Valley one of the most desirable places to live in Northern California.

The SRS Difference

Sonoma County roots. A personal approach to every project.

Sonoma Residential Services is a family-owned, veteran and woman-owned construction firm. Kelly is a Sonoma County native — she grew up here, went to school here, and her family has been in the construction business for generations. Ryan grew up on job sites with his father, a custom home builder with over 50 years of experience. After serving in the U.S. Air Force, he earned a Master's Degree in Construction Management.

When Kelly's family lost their home in the 2017 Tubbs Fire, it changed their perspective on what it means to build a home. It's not just construction — it's creating a place where a family feels safe, comfortable, and connected. That understanding informs everything we do, whether it's a kitchen remodel in Agua Caliente or a new home in the Valley of the Moon.

What we build in Sonoma.

Common questions about building in Sonoma.

Yes. The area around Sonoma Plaza is one of California's most historically significant neighborhoods, and remodeling here requires sensitivity to the city's design guidelines. The Sonoma Development Code includes specific provisions for properties near the Plaza and in designated historic areas. We're experienced in working within these guidelines — balancing modern functionality with the architectural character the city wants to preserve.

Kitchen and bathroom remodels are the most common requests we receive in Sonoma. Many homes in the area were built in the 1960s through 1980s and have good bones but dated interiors. We also see strong demand for outdoor living improvements — decks, patios, and outdoor kitchens — which makes sense given Sonoma's beautiful climate. ADUs are increasingly popular as well, particularly for homeowners who want to create rental income or guest accommodations.

In most cases, yes. Both the City of Sonoma and unincorporated Sonoma County have adopted California's ADU-friendly regulations. The permitting process and requirements differ depending on whether your property is within city limits or in the county, and we're experienced with both jurisdictions. We handle the full process from feasibility assessment through design, permitting, and construction.

It varies by scope and jurisdiction. Within the City of Sonoma, a straightforward interior remodel permit might take 3-6 weeks. Projects that require planning review — additions, ADUs, or work in historic areas — can take 2-4 months. In unincorporated Sonoma County (which includes areas like Agua Caliente and the Valley of the Moon), the county's Permit Sonoma department handles reviews. We manage the entire permitting process for our clients.

Absolutely. Agua Caliente, Boyes Hot Springs, Fetters Hot Springs, and El Verano are all areas where we've completed projects. These communities south of the City of Sonoma have their own character — a mix of modest mid-century homes, newer construction, and some larger properties. We've done kitchen remodels, bathroom updates, and additions throughout this area.
